South Burnaby made Basketball BC history by winning their third consecutive U13A Club Championship title. The team was 39 & 3 against U13 & U15 competition for the season with their only losses coming at the hands of the Champions of the three AAU tournaments the Eagles attended in the States.
This squad has to be considered one of the top select teams to have represented SBMC the past 16 seasons. Eight of the ten players had played at least one year in our elite training program, the ninth being added last spring and the final player showing up out of nowhere the last night of tryouts. The Eagles were a complete team with a great set of point guards to distribute the ball, several long range shooters, defensive stoppers and outstanding rebounders but the main thing was that they all could run. Their transition game was second to none.
The Eagles were pulled out of the U13 Metro League at the Christmas break as they had won their six games by an average of over 50 points per game. They were added into the SBMC U15 house league to play out the season and became the first U13 team to win the U15 Championship.

The 2011-2012 SBMC All-stars were South Burnaby's second U13 team. The Club was very deep this season with many talented grade 7 players. Most years several of the boys on the All-Stars would have made the Eagles first team. The All-stars had 19 & 5 record against Canadian competition. They lost the U13 Metro League Championship Game to Maple Ridge and then went on to win the Metropolis Basketball Classic B Division title. The squad was ranked number 4 for the U13A Club Championships but were upset by Champlain Heights in pool play and didn't reach the crossover semi-finals. The team finished their season with a 49-36 win over the RBL Ballers for 5th place at the Provincials.

The Raptors represented the best grade 7's our U13 House League had to offer. The team had good size and were very mobile with most of the scoring coming from their transition play. This season the all-star team had almost two months to prepare for the Provincials. It was plain to see that the potential was there to make a run at the U13C title. That perception changed after the Raptors went 4 & 1 in our Metropolis Basketball Classic's B Division going head to head with two A level Metro League teams. Clearly the boys could compete successfully at the next level up.
The U13 Club Championships were set up with four seeding games that determined which teams would be assigned to the tournament's A & B Divisions. The Raptors suffered their only set back of the weekend losing 50-40 to Champlain Heights in the placement game. From then on it was pedal to the medal with the boys running wild against their competition. The Championship game was a rematch against the 3D Elite from the North Shore with the Raptors claiming the U13B Championship crown. Zachary Underhill had a monster game leading all scorers with 30 points. Zack scored 78 points over the six games. Joshua Jaurigue with 56 and Felix Zhou 41 points also played major roles in the championship run. Congratulations to all the boys and especially to Coach Isaac who led the Raptors to victory after two seasons of runner up status in the Club Championships U13C Division.

The players on this season's development squad did double duty playing with their various House League teams on Saturday nights as well as with the U12 Eagles in the Metro League on Sundays. They promptly went 7 & 0 to lead the U13 Metro League`s B Division to start the season. After the Christmas break the U12 Eagles were shifted up to the League`s top division as a replacement for our U13 Eagles. Playing against the more talented grade 7`s turned out to be a bit of a stretch for the boys. Although they led many games at the half, they were unable to close out the contests winning only one additional Metro league game.
The U12 Eagles also competed in two grade 6 AAU tournaments in Washington State where they went a respectable 2 & 6 against the strong American teams. In the Metropolis Basketball Classic we dropped the team down to the tournament`s C Division to give the boys a chance to experience some success after a tough two months. They finished the tournament 4 & 1, losing to Champlain Heights in the Championship Game.
This season's Club Championships had four placement games for the teams seeded 5 thru 12. The winners were assigned to the U13A Division while the defeated dropped to the B Division. The Eagles won their preliminary game against 3D and again were up with the big boys losing their remaining 4 games. Still 8th place in the province for a group of grade 6's will put SBMC in good stead for next season's campaign.
