The 2009 Burnaby Eagles Selects were once again coached by Randy Edwards, back after a one year hiatus. The team had seven players returning from the 2008 A & B teams and enjoyed an excellent season both on and off the court. Although they didn't win any championships, there were numerous second place finishes. The Selects went undefeated over the Metro League schedule, only to lose a heart breaker in overtime to Richmond in the Championship Game. SBMC went 4 & 1 to finish second in our Metropolis Basketball Classic and then closed out the season losing to a very strong Drive Elite team in the U13 Club Championship Finals.

SBMC purposely selected the Club's second U13 rep team on the basis of age and then ability. All the players were either in grade 5 or 6 which enabled the team to play in the States as Grades 6's as well as to compete against grade 7 teams in the U13 Metro League's B Division. The team had an outstanding season and surprised everyone by winning the Metro League B Division Championship. The squad was also 500 in their games against the tougher American competition. The 97 Selects managed to finish 4th in our Metropolis Classic B Division despite several keys players being missing in action the second day of the tournament due to soccer commitments. At Basketball BC's U13 Club Championships, the team was entered in the Tournament's B Division. A second round loss to North Langley dropped them to group C where they managed to snag 3rd place. Things are definitely looking good for the 2010 season.
