U13 Club Championship Recap

Basketball BC put a lot of effort into properly seeding the boys Championships and went to three 8-team divisions to eliminate the opening round wipeouts which had occurred in past years. It also resulted in teams playing only three games over the course of the tournament. The Eagles Black squad was entered in the A Division, the most competitive grouping in the history of the Club Championships. SBMC had a strong first string which featured Jobair Satari, one of the top U13 players in the province. The Eagles won an opening day 57-56 nail biter over the RBL Rebels to qualify for the semi-finals. Karol Cybula, the squads other big man was ill the second day of the tournament and was sorely missed in the last second semi-final loss to the North Shore Lakers. Jobair ended up with 82 points over the 3 games and led the SBMC to a third consecutive 3rd place finish.

U13 Club Championship Recap

2002 was the first time South Burnaby entered two teams into the Club Championships with the Eagles White squad playing in the tournament's B Division. The players were selected from the SBMC house league and were a well balanced team. They easily crushed Tri-Cities in the opening game but needed overtime to defeat Seymour in the semi-finals. In the Championship game, the Eagles ran into foul trouble and ended up losing 41 to 34 to Filcansa. Jonathan Schmidt led the team in scoring with 33 points while Nick Chu and Kevin Da Silva added another 31 and 27 respectively.
