The 1999 SBMC Eagles were far more prepared than the previous two year's entries in the Club Championships. The team was coached by Greg Matic and Rod Thomson and had started training together in January as a late addition to the North Cascades AAU league. South Burnaby's 4 or 5 exhibition games against US competition as well as winning the Metropolis at Metrotown Classic Championship title put them into an excellent position to improve on their second place finish at the 1998 Provincial Tournament. The Eagles easily cruised to victory in their first 3 matches to qualify for the finals against the Abbotsford Heat. The Championship game was an exciting come from behind victory. SBMC needed a last second 3 pointer by Curtis Moss at the half to pull within 6 points before completely shutting down the Heat and winning the Championship game 40 to 33.
